A Closer Look: The Materials and Techniques of Impressionist Painting

Date: Friday, May 31, 2013
Time: 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Teacher: Sylvana Barrett
Type: In Studio: Exploring Historic Materials and Techniques

Spontaneous as the paintings of Impressionist masters may seem, their work is actually complex and often intricately structured. Join artist Sylvana Barrett for a look beneath the surface of masterworks in the Museum’s collections in an exploration of the techniques used to create them. Period supplies and the new pigments ultramarine blue, vivid synthetic greens, chrome yellows and oranges, which made the paintings possible, are displayed to illustrate the program.

The program is for visitors of all ages, with comments and questions encouraged throughout.
