An important figure in Los Angeles' Light and Space movement of the 1960s and early 1970s, Kauffman is recognized as being the first to employ commercial vacuum-forming techniques in plastics. Kauffman exploited this new method of working to create innovative sculptures that were sprayed with acrylic paint.
