Not on View

Terry Wild was one of three artists whose work was shown in the 1971 exhibition “Crowded Vacancy” at the Pasadena Art Museum, now the Norton Simon Museum. In their first-ever museum exhibit, Wild and his fellow photo artists Anthony Hernandez and Lewis Baltz presented a vision of the land and cityscape that was new, spare and seemingly dispassionate. Prescient as it was, the exhibition introduced the public to a growing perception of the urban landscape that would engender similarly themed exhibitions around the country.

In the course of cataloguing the Museum’s photography collection a few years ago, it became apparent that there were no photographs by Wild, though there were some by both Baltz and Hernandez from the historic 1971 exhibition. A letter of inquiry was sent to Terry Wild to confirm that the Museum did not acquire any examples from the show. Upon receipt of the letter, Mr. Wild kindly offered two original prints from the exhibit.
