The urge to portray ourselves, to create a unique (and best) version of ourselves, comes from a very deep and important place. And at no time is that connection between our facade and our soul felt deeper than as we make our way through our adolescent years. Local artist J. Michael Walker leads a special two-day workshop for teens in self-portraiture that makes ample use of the Museum's unique holdings in art from many cultures and eras. Students visit many of the Museum's portraits and then, under Walker's guidance, create their own "best" version of themselves—and, in fitting tribute to the Museum, see that work "framed" in a printed version of an antique frame to take home.
Meets in Entrance Gallery | This two-day program is free and all materials are provided. Designed for students ages 13–17 | Online registration is required. For further information, contact the Education Department at (626) 844-6980.
