Spanish painter Pablo Picasso and Russian composer Alexander Scriabin were near-contemporaries who shared an obsession with color. Scriabin, a synesthete, perceived specific color in relation to musical keys, whereas Picasso’s artistic periods are organized by his fascination with various color families. This musical presentation is a performance of Scriabin's 24 Preludes from Opus 11 alongside the projected artwork of Picasso. The preludes have been reorganized by the "color" of their keys in order to coincide with the multiple palettes represented in Picasso's works. The works displayed are all from the Norton Simon collection. Preceding the performance is a mini-lecture on the ties between both artists' aesthetics and influences.
