Modigliani was the quintessential outsider. He refused to define or align himself with any faction or label, instead searching for a comprehensive style that would draw upon his many varied influences to create something universal. Together we look at the varied sources Modigliani drew upon to create this style, including Italian Renaissance and 19th- and 20th-century French art, as well as ancient Roman and African art (seen in supplementary images).
