Summary

This position performs a variety of security related functions, including protecting art and other property.  Also provides assistance to visitors and staff during emergencies.  

 

Qualifications

Position requires good communication and interpersonal skills, ability to communicate professionally and tactfully with Museum patrons and staff from all organizational levels. Must be at least 18 years of age. Uniforms provided by the Museum must be worn when on duty. Employees are expected to adhere to conservative dress and appearance standards.

 

Major Job Responsibilities 

  • Assigned to galleries or exterior grounds to protect collection and other property from theft, vandalism, fire, illegal activity and any other hazard
  • Remains vigilant; remains on post until property relieved and reports any concerns, problems or hazards to security management
  • Maintains a calm, pleasant and professional demeanor at all times
  • Assists with special projects as needed

 

Physical Requirements

This position requires long hours of alert standing and moderate physical mobility and exertion in walking, climbing stairs.  Position may require strenuous physical activity related to responding to emergencies or alarms.  Gallery Attendants may be required to work outdoors and in occasional inclement weather. Must be able to bend, reach and lift up to 20 pounds.

 

Schedule 

Must be available to work up to 5 days per week on days selected by security management, up to 29 hours per week. Work schedule involves evening and weekend hours, and some holiday shifts including all major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s).
