Lecture: Collaboration and Competition in Golden Age Seville

Sunday, September 21, 4:00 p.m.

While most people think about Spanish art in the 1600s in terms of Velázquez and Madrid, another major tradition emerged in the south of Spain in the more isolated city of Seville. Jon Seydl, Curator of European Painting and Sculpture, Cleveland Museum of Art, explores the competitiveness and collaboration that marked this artistic community, centering on the Museum’s magnificent collection of late Golden Age Baroque art from Seville from artists Francisco de Zurbarán, Bartolomé-Esteban Murillo, Juan de Valdés Leal and Luisa Roldán.

Free with Museum admission.
