Ed Douglas studied with Jack Welpott at San Francisco State University, and was one of the original members of the Visual Dialogue Foundation. Founded in San Francisco in 1968 by a group of artists, the Visual Dialogue Foundation dedicated itself to promoting photography as a fine art through exhibitions and publications. In 1973, Douglas immigrated to Australia, where he taught photography at the South Australian School of Art in Adelaide from 1977 - 2001 when he retired. Julio was shot with a medium-format camera, a Bronica 2 1/4. Less bulky than a large-format camera, and therefore easier for the artist to take on location, it nevertheless records a great amount of information and, in this case, matches the artist’s perception of a visual world lush with detail and nuance.
