The Cardplayer
1921
Louis C. Marcoussis (French, 1878-1941)
Not on View

Marcoussis was influenced first by the Impressionists and then by the Fauves, but in 1910 his friendship with the Cubists Picasso and Braque directed the course of his art from then on. He exhibited with the Cubists in 1912 and contributed to the first exhibition of the Section d'Or. Since this lithograph was exhibited in the first California exhibitions organized by Galka Scheyer, it is probable that she brought it with her from Europe in 1924.
