Not on View

By the time John McLaughlin was invited to work at Tamarind Lithography Workshop, he was already considered a leader of the hard-edge painters in Los Angeles. As the elder statesman of the group, he renounced expressionist gesture and figurative incident in favor of orderly European abstraction and the quiet simplicity of Eastern philosophy, to which he subscribed. His purist forms required extreme skill to translate into lithography, and the precision of his 17 works created at Tamarind between 1962 and 1963 attest to the rapid advancement in the proficiency of the printers there.
