Not on View

Wayne Thiebaud grew up in Long Beach but came of age as an artist in Northern California. While his trademark representations of pastry and candy cases can be easily associated with a pop aesthetic, his focus is more traditional, tending toward the color, light and composition created by these delectable subjects. Thiebaud encountered printmaking early in his career, and its serial nature was well suited to the rows of comestibles that he captured with his expert draftsmanship. In addition to making a series of lithographs at Gemini, he has continued to work throughout his long career at Crown Point Press, the influential intaglio studio in the Bay Area.
