Fabricated in an edition of 100, these multiples were made by Claes Oldenburg in response to the police brutality unleashed at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in 1968. Like many of Oldenburg’s motifs, the fireplug is reused, reappropriated and transformed in a variety of media. The artist’s interest in making editions was constant throughout his career, whether in two or three dimensions.
