Terracotta plaques such as this fine example were used to adorn brick temples and monuments. In this dramatic composition, perhaps illustrating an episode from the Mahabharatha, the evil titan Vena rides into battle on a horse drawn chariot. The figure by his waist may represent a charioteer.
