Thiebaud began his career as a cartoonist and graphic designer. He is recognized for his deadpan depictions of banal objects, particularly food items, isolated against monochrome backgrounds. Unlike the work of other Pop artists, Thiebaud's art is not satirical, but depicted with a reverence that is more akin to the still life paintings of earlier traditions.
