External Affairs, Membership Manager, Full Time
Summary:
The Norton Simon Museum seeks a full-time Membership Manager. This position manages the day-to-day operations of the museum’s membership program, including strategic planning, marketing and communications, member events, and reporting and analysis. This position reports to the Senior Manager, External Affairs & Digital Content, and works closely with the part-time Membership and External Affairs Assistant.
Responsibilites:
Membership
- Manages membership database, which involves creating new profiles, updating membership history and other data changes
- Issues member correspondence and benefit fulfillment
- Provides customer service to members via the phone, email and in person. Liaises with and trains front-house staff stationed at the membership desk
- Manages mailing (printed and digital) for newsletters and other membership communications, works with mailing house and Accounting department on bulk-mailing handling, postage and permits
- Manages administrative duties for membership program, including overseeing member gift inventory and gift passes; monitoring and ordering membership stationery and brochures
- Generates monthly reports for Accounting department
- Collaborates with Vice President of External Affairs and Senior Manager, External Affairs & Digital Content on membership retention and acquisition campaigns and overall improvements to the program
- Assists with research and transition to a new CRM database
Events
- Oversees member-only events, including curator-led tours and opening receptions. Creates event timelines, coordinates rentals and deliveries, works with catering and A/V staff, coordinates with and keeps apprised museum departments, and manages mailing lists, guest lists and the production of the invitation
Communications
- Archives printed and digital projects, including invitations and newsletters
- Assists with web projects, including archival pages, member portal and event-ticketing system
- Provides customer service to patrons via the phone, email and in person regarding online tickets and classes
- Creates content for member-related communications, including emails, newsletters and social media
- Assists with member newsletter production, working with various staff on gathering content and managing timeline
- Oversees design and production of membership printed materials with in-house and/or with contracted outside vendors
- Manages member event photography for marketing purposes
Qualifications:
- B.A. required, degree in Art History, Arts Administration, Communications or Marketing preferred
- Four years of office and/or customer service experience required
- Minimum two years of membership and/or marketing experience preferred
- Strong computer skills and database experience required
- Strong attention to detail required
- Ability to function effectively as team member and a willingness to participate in activities and assignments that help meet the goals of and objectives of the department
- Strong organizational and communication skills required. Must be able to handle a variety of projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
Physical Requirements:
This position is in an indoor office setting, with frequent use of office equipment including computer, keyboard, and mouse. May involve long periods of sitting and standing. Must be able to bend, twist, reach, and lift up to 15 pounds.
Schedule:
This is a full-time, non-exempt position scheduled to work on-site Monday-Friday from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, with occasional evening and weekend hours expected.
Compensation:
Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes excellent benefits, including medical, dental, vision and life insurance and a generous pension program.
