Museum Store, Floor Lead, Part Time
The Norton Simon Museum is known around the world as one of the most remarkable private art collections ever assembled. Over a thirty-year period, industrialist Norton Simon (1907–1993) amassed an exquisite collection of European art from the Renaissance to the 20th century and South and Southeast Asian art spanning 2,000 years. Approximately 1,000 works from the permanent collection of 12,000 objects are on view in the Norton Simon Museum’s galleries and sculpture garden throughout the year.
The Museum is located in beautiful Pasadena, California, just steps from the bustling Old Pasadena district known for its shops and restaurants, and adjacent to the vibrant neighborhoods of northeast Los Angeles, Glendale and South Pasadena. Easily accessible by public transportation, the Museum also offers its employees free parking, as well as free admission to the Museum anytime, and discounts in the store and café.
Summary
The Museum is seeking a part-time Floor Lead. This position reports to the Museum Store Manager and assists with the Museum Store’s day-to-day operations, including supervising store clerks.
Key Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the Museum Store Manager, supervises clerks in all aspects of day-to-day operations, including monitoring daily meal period and rest break compliance
- Opens and closes registers and ensures accuracy and proper reporting
- Works with Museum Store Manager and Merchandising Associate on upkeep of inventory and performing the annual count
- Mediates customer concerns and requests, evaluates and approves discounts and exchanges, processes returns
- Monitors store office supplies
- Generates the monthly Gift Admission sales for Accounting Department
- Assists with sales and restocking merchandise in the Museum Store
- Assists store customers, answering questions, and helping with merchandise selection
Qualifications
- Prior retail experience is required
- Supervisor experience preferred
- Knowledge of and interest in visual arts and museums preferred
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong computer skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and includes long hours of standing and moderate bending and lifting.
Schedule
The position is scheduled Thursday through Monday and involves evening and weekend hours, including some holidays.
