How do artists create the illusion of materials and surfaces in an artwork? Students will observe works by such artists as Édouard Vuillard, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner to learn how to re-create a variety of textures from nature, textiles and the built environment. Through a series of discussions, demonstrations and exercises, students will create both warmup and finished drawings using increasingly complex materials and color palettes. Classes include:
