Sketchbook and Storytelling at the Norton Simon Museum

Learn how to enhance and expand your sketchbook practice in this six-part drawing series led by artist and educator Richard Houston. Discover how to develop a visual shorthand for rapid idea expression, strengthen observational skills and visual memory and build your own visual reference library. Each week, students will travel through various areas of the collection to learn about new approaches to visual storytelling and illustrate how developing a sketching practice can lead to continuous improvement.
Classes are held on Fridays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. (skipping Free First Fridays).
March 14: Simplifying the Subject
March 21: Developing a Visual Memory
March 28: Storytelling
April 11: Invention
April 18: Adding Costume
April 25: Light and Value
Registration for this course will open January 29th.
