Sketching Essentials: Unlocking Your Artistic Eye

Join artist Oscar Rodriguez for a six-part drawing series aimed at unlocking your creative potential. View works in the Norton Simon Museum’s collections, and learn how techniques such as chiaroscuro, hatching and blending can be used to depict forms and display artistic expression. After focusing on gesture, figure drawing, landscape, pattern and still life, the class will culminate in a session on expressive portraiture.

Classes are held on Fridays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. (skipping Free First Fridays).

January 10: Gesture Drawing with Sculptural Inspiration
January 17: Posture, Expression and Proportion in Figure Drawing
January 24: Depth in Landscape Drawing
January 31: Texture, Fabric and Pattern
February 14: Still-Life Studies
February 21: Capturing Character in Expressive Portraits
