Chao Shao-An Watercolors
This exhibition, held in a single gallery at the Pasadena Art Museum, displayed watercolors depicting birds and flowers by Chao Shao-An (1905–1998). Shao-An was an important figure in the revival of Chinese watercolor and ink drawings. His work blended traditional Chinese artistic styles, such as an economy of line and gestural fluidity, with contemporary techniques and materials like colored ink. Seventeen works were displayed in this solo exhibition, including The Joy of Fish, Peacock and Landscape of Kweilin. Before this exhibition, Shao-An showed his work at the De Young Museum in San Francisco.
