Francis de Erdely (1904-1959) Memorial Exhibition
This memorial exhibition held at the Pasadena Art Museum surveyed the career of painter Francis de Erdely. The exhibition included oil paintings, watercolors and drawings borrowed from various American collections and assembled by his wife, Edith. Works on display included Night (1949); Self-Portrait (1942); Day’s End (1974); and Table for Two (1952). De Erdely’s work was predominantly figural, focusing on scenes of men and women in quiet contemplation and repose. The exhibition was accompanied by a catalogue with an introduction written by the American artist and printmaker Arthur Millier.
