New American Sculpture (Bontecou, Chamberlain, Higgins, Price, Westermann)
New American Sculpture featured 32 works by 5 contemporary American sculptors, who had all emerged within the previous decade. H. C. Westermann (1922–1981) worked in metal and wood, Kenneth Price (1935–2012) in ceramic, Edward Higgins (b. 1930) and John Chamberlain (1927–2011) in steel and Lee Bontecou (b. 1931) in steel and wire. All five artists drew inspiration from European sculptors such as Constantin Brancusi, Jean Arp, Alexander Calder and Joan Miro. The exhibition was accompanied by an illustrated catalogue, with a foreword written by Pasadena Art Museum Director Walter Hopps.
