NOW – An Environment
NOW – An Environment was a one-night exhibition and program curated by artist Richards Ruben (1925–1998). Held in the Pasadena Art Museum auditorium, the event featured poems, readings, music and projections of paintings and photography. An invitation to the event described the program as “an experience using simultaneous means of man’s expression in image and sound.” Eight spoken-word works were read aloud, predominantly by Ruben himself. As a proponent of Abstract Expressionism, Ruben included projections of works by such artists as Jasper Johns (b. 1930), Mark Rothko (1903–1970), Willem de Kooning (1904–1997), Robert Motherwell (1915–1991) and Jackson Pollock (1912–1956), among others.
