Paintings by Richards Ruben
This exhibition displayed the large-scale, abstract work of California artist Richards Ruben (1925–1998). Sixty-two works were presented in the diverse mediums of oil on canvas, pencil drawings on rice paper, crayon and pencil drawings, brush drawings and oil on paper. Many of the paintings were drawn from his recently completed Claremont Series. Two works––Claremont No. 38 (1960) and Claremont No. 55 (1961)––were gifted to the Pasadena Art Museum following the show. They are currently held in the collection of the Norton Simon Museum. An illustrated catalogue with an introduction from Bates Lowry, the Chairman of the Art Department at Pomona College, accompanied the exhibition.
