Paintings by Ward Lockwood
A painter and a printmaker, Ward Lockwood (1894–1963) received his artistic training at the University of Kansas, Lawrence and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Actively painting from the 1920s until his death, Lockwood displayed his work in several solo exhibitions at the Pasadena Art Museum, Denver Art Museum, Museum of Fine Arts in Houston and University of Texas, Austin. He also worked as an arts educator, teaching at the University of Texas and University of California, Berkeley. This exhibition at the Pasadena Art Museum displayed 29 paintings ranging in size from 50 by 69 inches to 32 by 45 inches. The titles of his works hint to explorations in movement and reflections on landscape themes, in examples such as Floral Ascension, Improvisation and Rock Structure.
