Santos - Spanish Colonial Religious Art
Santos – Spanish Colonial Religious Art displayed 54 santos created in and around New Mexico. Santos are small, devotional objects representing Christ and the Catholic saints. They are often vividly colorful and appear in two distinct types: the two-dimensional retablo panel painting and the bulto a wooden sculpture presented in the round. Lenders to this exhibition included the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico; the Southwest Museum; the Santa Barbara Museum of Art; and several other private collectors. The exhibition was accompanied by an illustrated catalogue.
