Three Man Exhibition: Doris Dean, Miriam Stein, Donald Totten

This “three man” exhibition at the Pasadena Art Museum featured the work of two female artistsDoris Dean and Miriam Steinand a male colleague, Donald Totten. Born in Iowa, Dean pursued her artistic instruction at the Art Students’ League in New York, the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center and in various institutions in Paris. Her works on display in this exhibition included oils on canvas, oils on Masonite and oil monotypes. Born in Texas, Stein moved to California and studied painting in Pasadena under Leonard Edmonson. Her work was displayed in many Southern California institutions, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the San Gabriel Valley Annuals. A South Dakota native, Totten trained at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. He worked as a muralist for many years and completed commissions for various public buildings and churches in California.
