East Meets West: Russian Art from the 18th to the 20th Century

The Norton Simon Museum presents an exhibition of Russian paintings, drawings, and graphics, including six new acquisitions. The period covered in the exhibition begins in the 18th century with the decision of Peter the Great to open his country to Western influence, and then follows the development of Russian art from one derivative of, to one dependent upon Western artistic tastes. As their artistic tradition evolves, it becomes innovative and uniquely Russian. The works exhibited will be in various media and include te following artists: Rotari, Aronson, Kiselev, Dobujinski, Kustodiev, Maliavine, Popova, Grigoriev, Kandinsky, Archipenko, and Jawlensky.
