A Tribute to Frederick Sommer, 1905-1999
A Tribute to Frederick Sommer, 1905–1999 is an exhibition of rare photographs by Frederick Sommer commemorating his profound influence on twentieth century photography. As a tribute to Sommer’s influence and artistic genius, the Norton Simon Museum also presents photographs by 13 of his peers, including Alfred Stieglitz, Edward Weston, Minor White and Manuel Alvarez Bravo. Each artist made important contributions to the art of photography and each shared a special relationship with Sommer, who acted as mentor, admirer, apprentice or confidant.
