From Europe to California: Galka Scheyer and the Avant-Garde
The Norton Simon Museum presents From Europe to California: Galka Scheyer and the Avant-Garde—the second of two landmark exhibitions celebrating the modern art champion Galka Scheyer and her remarkable collection of modernist art housed at the Museum. Comprising approximately 150 paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture and photographs by great modern artists such as Pablo Picasso, Diego Rivera, Edward Weston and Alexander Archipenko, the exhibition showcases the wide array of European and North American artists represented in Scheyer’s collection. In addition to highlighting great works of modern art, the exhibition also reveals to visitors, through personal letters and photographs, Scheyer’s unique role in the history of modern art in America. From Europe to California follows the exhibition My Four Kings: Galka Scheyer and the Blue Four.
