A Conversation on Manet’s Philosophers from the Art Institute of Chicago

In this short video, Chief Curator Emily Talbot explores Manet’s Philosopher paintings with the Art Institute of Chicago’s Gloria Groom, the David and Mary Winton Green Curator of 19th-Century European Painting and Sculpture and Chair of European Painting and Sculpture, and Kim Muir, Research Conservator for Paintings in the Department of Conservation and Science. Groom and Muir discuss Manet’s style and legacy, as well as the many discoveries made through technical analyses of the Art Institute’s works, which are explored in detail in their online scholarly catalogue of the artist.

The video is produced in conjunction with Manet’s “Philosophers” from the Art Institute of Chicago, on view from November 19, 2021 – February 28, 2022.
