Puccio di Simone's "Madonna and Child with Angels," c. 1350
Transcript:
Take a few deep breaths and bring awareness to your body. Notice your whole body in the present moment.
Observe the tender gaze between mother and son.
Imagine the sensation of the Virgin Mary’s right hand softly resting on her infant son’s small chest, her left hand embracing and supporting him.
Notice the child’s grasp on his mother’s veil. How does the veil feel on his fingers?
Observe the raised pattern in the gold of the mother and child’s halos, and imagine how it might feel on your fingertips, how it might glitter by candlelight.
Turn your attention to the angels at the Virgin Mary’s feet with their golden halos and curls, and feathered wings. Close your eyes and imagine the sounds of celestial music emanating from their stringed instruments.
