Virtual Tour: Picasso Ingres: Face to Face

Chief Curator Emily Talbot offers a closer look at two remarkable, interrelated paintings: Ingres’s Madame Moitessier (1856), on loan from the National Gallery, London, and the painting it inspired, Picasso’s Woman with a Book (1932), a highlight of the Norton Simon collections. Talbot situates the pairing in terms of the genesis of each work, the artists’ relationships with their sitters and their distinct creative ambitions.
