Reopening the Norton Simon Museum

January 15, 2025

To our community,

Thank you to everyone who has reached out to us this past week, both to express your concern for our safety and to share what the Norton Simon Museum means to you. To ensure that the Museum is accessible to as many members of our community as possible, we will offer free admission to all over the holiday weekend, starting this Thursday, January 16 through Monday, January 20.

While our sculpture garden is currently closed for repairs and improvements, our galleries are open, and we have scheduled additional activities for children and adults during this free weekend (our previously scheduled tours and classes will also take place—visit our website for information). Please join us for:

Friday:

  • Drop-In Drawing all day: Pick up sketching materials at our Information Desk and spend some independent creative time anywhere in the galleries
  • Stories in the Afternoon at 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.: Join a Museum educator for story time in the galleries followed by a related art activity (for kids 4-8)
  • Film screening of Van Gogh: Poets & Lovers at 5:00 p.m.: Explore the current blockbuster at the National Gallery in London through a filmed version of this once-in-a-century exhibition (screened in our theater)
  • Bring your smartphone and personal headphones and enjoy our free Audio Tour focusing on nearly 400 works of art on view
  • Families: On your way out, pick up a free Art Kit at our Information Desk and continue your creative journey
